Blue Flag Beaches Announced for Summer 2025

This summer, 10 beaches in Malta and Gozo have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag for 2025, recognising their excellent water quality, cleanliness, safety, and sustainable management.

The newly awarded beaches are: Fond Għadir, Fajtata Bay (Sliema), St George’s Bay, The Westin Dragonara Resort Beach (St Julian’s, privately run), Buġibba Perched Beach, Qawra Point (St Paul’s Bay), Ramla Bay (Xagħra), and Marsalforn (Żebbuġ, Gozo).

Additionally, Xwejni Bay in Żebbuġ, Gozo, has been recognised as a Beach of Quality, meaning it has met most of the Blue Flag criteria and is close to achieving full status.

The Blue Flag certificates were presented during this week’s event at Golden Bay, where a rescued turtle named Evie was also released back into the sea after nearly a year of recovery at the Nature Trust Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. The family who spotted Evie in distress last August joined the event to witness the special moment.

Deputy Prime Minister Borg said, “The Blue Flag is more than just a symbol — it reflects our strong commitment to protecting the natural beauty of our coastline while providing a safe, high-quality experience for both locals and tourists. This achievement shows how different stakeholders can work together to ensure that tourism and coastal activities are managed responsibly, with environmental protection as a top priority.”

Mr Attard highlighted the strict environmental criteria required to achieve the award, while Mr Micallef praised the dedication of all workers, public bodies, and private companies involved in maintaining these beaches to the highest standards of safety, quality, and sustainability.
