PM Abela: “We will protect everyone’s investment but focus on quality”

Valletta, 9 October 2025 – Prime Minister Robert Abela met representatives of the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) as part of consultations for Budget 2026.
He said that while the Government will continue protecting all investments, the focus must shift toward quality and sustainability within the tourism sector.

Dr Abela noted that Malta saw an 18.2% increase in tourist spending in the first eight months of 2025 and ranked first in the EU for overnight stays. He added that the Government remains committed to attracting visitors who appreciate Malta’s authentic experience and contribute positively to local communities.

The Prime Minister also highlighted new direct routes, including flights from the United States starting next year with Delta Airlines.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and several Ministers.
