New regulations to further improve standards in elderly care announced

Prime Minister Robert Abela, together with Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, visited older persons residing at Porziuncola Home, a private residential care facility operating in partnership with the Government.

During the visit, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards of care for older persons in both public and private residential homes. He announced that new regulatory standards will be launched next year for public consultation, with the aim of further improving the quality of services offered to older persons.

Prime Minister Abela highlighted that the recently approved Budget includes an €83 million investment in residential care within private homes, reflecting the importance of public-private collaboration in delivering sustainable, high-quality care that meets national standards.

The Prime Minister and the Parliamentary Secretary also met residents and their families, exchanging experiences and festive greetings. Porziuncola Home, operated by Golden Care, forms part of a wider network of modern residential facilities offering professional, safe and dignity-focused care through a multidisciplinary team operating 24/7.
