Speaker Farrugia praises Armenia’s peace efforts and highlights bilateral progress.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Anġlu Farrugia welcomed Mr Tigran Karapetyan, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Malta, in a meeting that celebrated the growing bilateral cooperation between the two nations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1993.
The Speaker conveyed Malta’s firm commitment to deepening ties with Armenia, especially in areas such as political dialogue, education, and cultural exchange. Both parties reflected positively on the first round of political consultations held in March 2024, which served as a key step toward strengthening mutual understanding.
Speaker Farrugia underlined Malta’s belief in multilateral engagement, noting the country's active participation in global platforms including the OSCE, Council of Europe, and the United Nations. He commended Armenia’s constructive efforts in promoting regional peace, particularly the positive steps in the ongoing Armenia–Azerbaijan peace process.
Ambassador Karapetyan thanked Malta for its support in international forums and reiterated Armenia’s interest in expanding partnerships, particularly in higher education and culture. He highlighted the ongoing university collaborations and shared optimism about future initiatives.
The meeting concluded with Speaker Farrugia reaffirming Malta’s readiness to enhance dialogue and practical cooperation. He wished Ambassador Karapetyan success in further advancing Malta-Armenia relations.
“We value our strong relationship with Armenia and are eager to continue building on this foundation through education, diplomacy, and cultural dialogue,” said Speaker Farrugia.
