Marked decline in first-time asylum applications in March 2025
In March 2025, 57,925 first-time asylum applicants (non-EU citizens) sought international protection in EU countries. This figure reflects a 23% decrease compared with March 2024 (75,040) and a 2% drop from February 2025 (59,085).
Additionally, there were 7,430 subsequent applicants, a 4% increase compared with March 2024 (7,170), but a 3% decrease from February 2025 (7,630).
These figures highlight shifting trends in migration patterns and the need for updated analysis of migration flows and asylum policies in the EU.
