Speaker Farrugia: “Fighting hunger must be a moral and legal duty — not words without action” Speaker Farrugia calls for global solidarity to end hunger during Parliament’s World Food Day session.

Valletta – Speaker Anġlu Farrugia opened a special plenary session in Parliament to mark World Food Day, stressing that hunger remains one of humanity’s greatest contradictions. Despite global progress, millions still go hungry while tons of food are wasted yearly.
He called for innovation and solidarity in addressing hunger, citing Malta’s leadership in sustainable water and food management. Farrugia praised government efforts through the Malta Food Agency and the “Żomm Tarmix” initiative, welcoming a new bill on food waste reduction.
He concluded that fighting hunger must become both a moral and legislative duty, urging parliaments to ensure food is treated as a right, not a privilege.
