21 Young People Presented with the Duke of Edinburgh International Award 21 young people recognised with the Duke of Edinburgh International Award at Verdala Palace.

Twenty-one young people who have shown resilience, personal growth, and a strong commitment to serving their communities were honoured with the Duke of Edinburgh International Award during a ceremony held at the Verdala Palace. The awards were presented by the Minister for Inclusion and Volunteering, Julia Farrugia Portelli.

The award recipients came from various youth organisations and educational institutions such as BP Scouts Malta, Malta Girl Guides, St Aloysius College Sixth Form, Junior College, and The Scout Association Malta.

These youths completed challenges across community service, physical recreation, skills development, teamwork, and adventurous expeditions. Through their dedication, they built confidence, character, and determination — qualities at the heart of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Minister Farrugia Portelli highlighted that the achievements of these young people reflect the Government’s belief that youth represent both the present and the future of the country. She noted that Malta currently has the lowest youth unemployment rate in Europe and continues to invest in education so that young people can benefit from quality career opportunities.

The Minister also emphasised the Government’s ongoing support for students, including a further 15% increase in stipends, amounting to a €6 million investment. She also referred to the schemes helping young people become homeowners.

Farrugia Portelli added that the Government’s confidence in young people is also visible in the creation of the Youth Cabinet, which consults individuals aged 16 to 35 on national issues. She concluded by noting that Malta was one of the first EU countries to grant 16-year-olds the right to vote in general elections.
