Record crowds welcome 2026 during national celebrations in the capital
Crowds gather in Valletta to welcome the start of 2026.
An estimated 70,000 people gathered across Valletta to welcome the start of 2026 during the national New Year’s Eve celebrations, marking the largest such event ever held in the capital.
Crowds filled St George’s Square, Valletta’s main streets, Triton Square, and vantage points around the Grand Harbour.
The celebrations featured live performances by leading Maltese artists, culminating with a show by international artist John Newman. At midnight, the festivities peaked with the largest fireworks display ever staged for New Year’s Eve in Malta.
The event concluded the Valletta Cultural Agency’s 2025 programme and was organised by G7 Events, with support from the Malta Tourism Authority.
