Maria Micallef appointed Chairperson of the MCESD

Maria Micallef has been appointed Chairperson of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development (MCESD), becoming the first woman to hold this role.
Ms Micallef brings extensive experience from the private sector and previously served as Chairperson of Air Malta between 2014 and 2017. She currently sits on several boards within the manufacturing, tourism, insurance, and financial services sectors. She holds a degree in Chemistry and Biology and a Master’s degree in Strategic and General Management from the Maastricht School of Management.
Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue Andy Ellul described the appointment as an important step in further strengthening the MCESD, highlighting its key role in shaping and implementing national policies.
Dr Ellul also announced that the Government will be launching the Young Shapers Forum, an initiative that will enable secondary school students to actively participate in discussions within the MCESD. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to social dialogue and youth participation in shaping Malta’s future.
The Parliamentary Secretary also thanked outgoing Chairperson Architect David Xuereb for his dedicated service over the past three years.
