Community Outreach Service launched for cancer patients Minister Jo Etienne Abela launching the new community outreach service for cancer patients.

On World Cancer Day, themed ‘United by Unique. Putting people at the centre of care’, the Minister for Health and Active Ageing, Jo Etienne Abela, announced the launch of an oncology outreach service in the community following a successful pilot project.

Minister Jo Etienne Abela explained that the oncology outreach service provides significant benefits to patients by delivering essential cancer-related care directly within the community. The service began as a pilot project with one nurse, concluding the year 2025 with 425 successfully conducted sessions.

The team now consists of three full-time nurses, two drivers, and two vans equipped with all necessary supplies. This expansion will allow for more sessions to be carried out, with 40 sessions already completed by the end of January.

Minister Jo Etienne Abela stated that this service ensures more accessible care for those who cannot travel easily. “In the coming years, the fight against cancer will continue to be based on prevention and screening, and the Government remains committed to continuing its investment in this vital sector,” concluded Dr. Abela.
