Minister Camilleri emphasizes the need for discipline and respect Minister Byron Camilleri and CEO Christopher Siegersma with the new Correctional Services Agency recruits.

After weeks of intensive training, 24 individuals participated in their Passing Out Parade, marking the start of their new careers as Correctional Officers within the Correctional Services Agency. Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri congratulated the officers while emphasizing that their work must be built on discipline and respect.

In his message to the recruits, Minister Camilleri highlighted the responsibility that comes with this career. He stated that correctional officers "carry not only the responsibility for their own actions but the responsibility of an entire institution." He stressed that success in this career should be founded on discipline and respect, explaining the importance of the rehabilitative aspect of the correctional system. He maintained that while order in the facility is crucial, it must serve as a foundation for efforts to help residents serving their sentences reintegrate into society and avoid creating new victims.

He assured the recruits that the Government would continue to support them as workers throughout their careers. "As a government, we will be with you. We invest in you and help you," said the Minister, mentioning improvements in working conditions, better wages, and more professional development opportunities given to Correctional Services Agency workers in recent years. He also recalled the investment in resources and the facility itself.

While marking the beginning of a new career, the Passing Out Parade also concludes a long and rigorous recruitment process that included several stages. The group of 24 includes 19 men and 5 women who were selected after demonstrating the highest level of adaptability for the responsibilities associated with this role. During the training course, recruits were exposed to various fields to ensure they acquired the necessary skills to exercise discipline and contribute fully to the rehabilitative process. The curriculum, based on a holistic approach, covered correctional service systems, the role of the correctional officer, aspects of psychology, and physical training, among others.

On his part, the CEO of the Correctional Services Agency, Christopher Siegersma, remarked that the passing out parade is not simply a ceremonial conclusion, but the beginning of professional responsibility and commitment to a demanding, complex, and deeply human vocation.
