Prime Minister Robert Abela, accompanied by the Minister for Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector Julia Farrugia, visited Dar Shalom in Żurrieq, where he met with residents on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the opening of this home. Over the years, it has continued to grow as a space of care, affection, and support for persons with disabilities.

Dar Shalom accommodates a maximum of five persons with different disabilities in a safe, dignified, and family-like environment. This residence is the fruit of a partnership between Aġenzija Sapport and Dar tal-Providenza and forms part of a number of residential homes for persons with disabilities spread across the country. This is an integral part of the Government's policy to continue investing in independent living models within the community, together with voluntary organisations.

During his visit, Prime Minister Robert Abela had the opportunity to tour the facilities and see firsthand the environment in which these residents live. He spoke with them about their experience in this residence, as well as the importance of providing persons with disabilities the necessary support to live as independently as possible and to integrate into the community. During this meeting, the importance of continuing to build these services on a person-centred model was clearly highlighted, whilst strengthening the values of inclusion and active participation in society.

Also present for this meeting were the Director of Dar tal-Providenza, Fr Martin Micallef, as well as the Mayor of Żurrieq, Rita Grima.
