During the compilation of evidence in court today, the names of the three foreign students accused of drug trafficking were made public in court today in a case involving 600 grams of cannabis allegedly intended for distribution.

The accused have been identified as Constantine Cveltovich, a Serbian national; Safiya, Indian national; and Evelyne, a French national. The trio, who were arrested last April following a police raid on a Sliema apartment, are facing serious charges related to drug trafficking after investigators found cannabis divided into individual packets โ€” believed to be prepared for sale.

In court today, all three defendants filed requests for bail. However, the prosecution objected strongly, arguing that there is a real risk of absconding and potential tampering with evidence if the accused are released.

Prosecutors further noted that the investigation has uncovered connections beyond Maltese borders, and hinted that a former partner of one of the accused could also be involved in the alleged operation.

Due to the sensitive nature of the case, including the ongoing analysis of digital evidence and the possibility of further arrests, the court stated it will decide on the bail applications in chambers.

The students, who are all residing in Malta on student visas, had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges. They remain in custody as the legal process unfolds.

The next sitting in the compilation of evidence is expected in July.
